Ep104: Peace of Mind (How To Find It and Keep It!)

Peace of Mind... not just a great song by the band Boston, but something we dearly need in our lives. Kind of in the "take a break" category but also more encompassing. Peace of mind is more of a lifestyle change and concerted effort to chill and be happy in our own skin. Anyhoo, this l'il podcast points out seven ways to find it and keep it. Hey there. How are you today? How are you specifically, as I always say? Hope you're doing well. Let me know in the comments. Over to those YouTube shorts over there on the YouTube channel. And let me know. Comment on those as well. Like and subscribe, please. Anyway, this is a good one. I think they're all good ones, though. I wouldn't do this if I was just flapping my jaws, you know. I'd be um doing something else. But uh I think this stuff is kind of important. And as I always say, I don't make this stuff up. I'm not a doctor, I'm a doctor of love, sort of. That's a joke. But uh I'm I just see these things and I I think maybe maybe you haven't seen it, so I pass it along. And if you like it, great. Some of the stuff applies, some of it doesn't. But this one today, I think we can all um appreciate um peace of mind. And specifically there's a website called very wellmind.com, and this comes straight from there. So I'm kind of quoting them um liberally, so to speak. And um let's get to the point here. Seven signs of peace of mind. And these are things we we can do during the day. We get so caught up in every day running around and picking up kids or trying to get a project done and trying to get back to work after lunch when we really don't want to go back to work after lunch, stuff like that. But we need to take time for ourselves, even if it's a short moment, to either like meditate perhaps, or just to clear our mind and just to slow everything down, right? There's been some stuff going around on the interwebs, um, brief aside here, and it's like people are shoving food in their mouth and just eating them, and then it just pops up on the screen and says, it's not a race or something like that, or let's remember to slow down. So that's something else I would encourage us all to do is that it's not a race. And we're not out trying to win anything. We can slow down an extra few minutes, and you know, in traffic, an extra taking that extra glance or taking an extra not trying to beat the red light. Boy, how many accidents do we see with people trying to beat red lights these days. Everybody's in a hurry, right? And boy, that's that never ends well. Most of the time it doesn't anyway. So those are things that we need to just take our time a little bit more and and and focus in our mind and say, you know what, I don't need to rush through this. Haste makes waste and all that stuff. So anyway, let me get back on point here, although that stuff was kind of important to mention as well. Um, seven signs of peace of mind, feeling comfortable in your skin and at ease with yourself. How true is that, right? We have to be at ease with ourselves. If we're all anxiety ridden and worried about the next step or the next shoe to drop and all that stuff, we just have to realize we are who we are and we are as good as we're gonna get at that moment in time. So let's get comfortable with ourselves and just kind of say, you know what? And boy, isn't it the truth too, that when we feel this way, when we feel comfortable in our skin and we're at ease with ourselves, what is that? It's confidence, right? It's confidence. And that confidence shines, it just shows other people that, hey, we know what we're doing. You chill out. So so to speak, I guess. Umber two on this list is being able to take minor day-to-day stressors in stride. Makes sense, doesn't it? Things that pop up that could just crush our days, silly little things, a phone call, a flat tire, things that can go wrong, and then all of a sudden the whole day's just out of whack. Let's take those things in stride. A flat tire is a flat tire. It doesn't mean the end of the world. It could be worse, right? Could be a lot worse. That's how I choose to look at things. My family will tell you that. I choose to look at the, you know, the glass half full and in a pragmatic way, not in a phony she whiz and you know, everything's rainbows and unicorns stuff. Um, number three here is being content with your life and accepting circumstances the way they are. Now, isn't that the truth as well? These are all just spot on, aren't they? I think so. We need to be content with where we're at and always pushing for the next promotion or the next just let's just be happy with who we are and what we are. Again, and live in the moment and just accept circumstances the way they are. Maybe we're stuck, we're working on a project that we're doing a month end or something, you know, any whatever it might be. Let's just take it one step at a time and get it done, and then get that feeling of accomplishment when we are done and know we did our best, right? Number four is feeling confident that you can manage anything that comes your way, that we can manage anything that comes our way. And you know, that is also very true. We'll get some curveballs during the day, things will happen, and we just have to roll with it, right? Just roll with it and understand that we were built for this, that we know what we're doing. There's a reason we're here, there's a reason we're put in that position, and we can manage things. And even when things tr tend to want to blow up, we can we can tamp them back down, right? We can. And then we can just kind of move on with the day. It sounds so, I don't know, Pollyanish, I guess, but it's true. Let's not let things just take us out of whack and ruin everything. Then we get sick to our stomach and then we get a headache, and then we come home and we're crabby with our family, stuff like that, or just crabby in general. Hell with that. You know, let's just take things in stride and and we can manage what comes our way. Number five is being empathetic towards others and being able to build healthy relationships. Now there's two sides to this the way I see it. Perhaps you agree, is that um, you know, we we treat others as we would be treated, the golden rule, which is what my dad taught me, although he never really called it the golden rule. But we treat others as we would be treated. And in doing so, they see who we are, uh, perhaps our leadership qualities, perhaps just us being good people, as simple as that. And that in turn that helps us build healthy relationships. Now, conversely, there's some people out there that are toxic and they just want to ruin your day. Well, you know what we do with them? See ya. Bye-bye. Gone. And if it's somebody you have to work with on a project, just minimize their impact on what you're doing. If it's somebody in your family, if you've tried talking to them in the past, minimize their impact as well. And just go with the people that lift us up, right? And and that's the two sides to number uh to number five there. Number six is not being dependent on others approval for our happiness. How very true. All these are awesome, aren't they? I'm gonna save this one. I'm gonna print this out and put it on my wall. Because not being dependent on others' approval for our happiness, that is true. And this goes in sort of in line with oh, a broadcast I did last week on um being the thermometer, the thermostat and not the thermometer. Because if we're the thermostat, we are setting the rules, we're setting the temperature. If we're the thermometer, we're on the receiving end of that. And that's not we don't need that. We don't need others to to look at us and and we want to win their approval. No. We got to be happy in our own skin, all these prior to this number six fall in line with this. We we don't need to be dependent on others, and let's not be. Let's get that, keep that confidence going, right? And number seven is having a calm and positive outlook toward life. Sounds so simple, doesn't it? But it can be so hard. I know, I know. Um you're probably shaking your head too, and I am, because it's so easy to get off track. Once again, these simple little not even rules, they're just guidelines for life and a happy life. Simple stuff. Sometimes we we get off the beaten path and then everything just goes out the window. But we have to somehow maintain a calm and positive outlook in our day. Live in the it comes with living in the moment and all that stuff, right? Correct? Living in the moment, being ourselves right then and there. And that makes all the difference in the world. So I will say that all these number one through seven, what peace of mind looks like in daily life, the seven signs of peace of mind. I love this stuff, y'all. It's very wellmind.com. And like I always say, I'll give them credit for this. I didn't, I didn't write it, but I'd sure think it, and I'm gonna save this and I'm gonna enjoy it, and try my very best, and I hope you will as well, to get peace of mind in your life, even for sharp doses at a time. And make it last as long as we can. SMFarthepodcast.com. Love all y'all.
